Quick, easy and reliable to insert, i-gel is ideal for use as a routine airway in anaesthesia as it is provides high seal pressures and reduced trauma. It also incorporates a gastric channel to provide additional protection against aspiration and has the versatility to be applicable for use during difficult airway management, as a rescue device and a conduit for intubation (with fibreoptic guidance).
i-gel now has an established reputation in anaesthesia as a high quality second generation airway device. i-gel was launched in 2007 with three adult sizes and in 2010 four paediatric sizes were added to the range. The new product sizes are ideal for use with patient weights between 2-90+kg. In 2012, the indications for use were expanded to include use as a conduit for intubation (with fibreoptic guidance).
